Imagine being born in the first half of the twentieth century in the United States and suddenly discovering that people, with radios, newspapers, ships and airplanes, still live in Greek-style houses. They do not perceive anything but gables, fancy statues, cornices and columns... They refuse to see progress. It is in this situation that the main character of the novel - a talented architect Howard Roark - finds himself. He does not even try to open the eyes of others to the absurdity of the situation, but just does his job. Society calls people like him - those who have their own opinion - selfish, considers them "sick" and wrong. They close the doors in front of him and try to push him away from the epicenter of architectural life. What will the hero do and is it really bad to be selfish?
