In the early 1970s, Astrid, born in 1907, and Sarah, born in 1958, began a lively correspondence. The age difference of fifty years was not a problem for them. It was a communication between two kindred spirits who talked about life, love, and how difficult it is to be human.
Over the years, the number of letters decreased, but this dialog was interrupted only with Astrid's death in 2002. More than eighty letters have survived.
These unique letters, the originals of which are kept in the Astrid Lindgren Archive at the Royal Library, open up an unknown page in the writer's life. But above all, they show how much it means for an impressionable teenager to be heard and recognized as an equal.
