Fiction and documentary novels by famous Ukrainian writers Ivan Golovchenko, Oleksa Musienko, which make up the tetralogy, are devoted to the heroic struggle of Kyiv in July - September 1941, the struggle of Kyiv underground, people's avengers in the Kyiv region in the early period of the Great Patriotic War. The writers for a long time studied domestic and foreign military archives, searched for participants of combat events, collected front letters, memoirs, diaries. On the basis of these materials they recreated with documentary accuracy one of the brightest pages of the initial period of the war - the heroic defense of Kyiv, told little-known feats of our underground and partisans.
