Description

The collection includes the most interesting stories by Marko Vovchok ("Chumak" 1858, "Kozachka" 1858, "Chary" 1852, "Proydysvit" 1863, "Karmeliuk" 1865), which became his literary debut and brought recognition and fame to Maria Markovych (Vilinska), known in Ukrainian literature as Marko Vovchok. The overarching idea of the works is to condemn serfdom, this "Ukrainian slavery." For this, Marko Vovchok was put on a par with the American writer Harriet Beecher Stowe. At the same time, these are outstanding works of art of words, evidence of the writer's high artistic skill. The style of Marko Vovchok's works is light and sincere, which gives them a special literary power.
