Sergei Loiko “Airport” (Роман)
The action of the presented novel begins and unfolds in the Airport. The author depicts minute by minute the events during the last five days of the entire long, 240-day siege of the airport. Although the novel is based on true facts, all the main characters in the novel are fictional, a product of the author's fiction, as is the name of the Airport itself. The small military garrison of the Ukrainian army, which guards the airport day and night, repels the attacks of a brutal and much larger enemy, which prevails not only in manpower but also in equipment. But here, in this almost completely destroyed basement of the Airport, the cruel and insidious enemies encounter something incredible and unexpected - Cyborgs. This is how the enemies called the defenders of the Airport for their incredible stubbornness, inhuman survivability doomed to heroic death. The Cyborgs called their enemies orcs. Together with Ukrainian Cyborgs in the Airport there is a photographer of an American publication, who because of personal reasons, not only experiences the war as a personal drama, but also takes part in this unnecessary war. Through the eyes of the photographer, as if in a kaleidoscope, in small intervals between the brutal battles at the airport, readers will also see the whole history of what later objective historians will call no other than the "Russian-Ukrainian war"
The novel "Airport" is not a documentary chronicle, not a real investigation, not a chronicle. The novel "Airport" - this is really fiction, which is based by the author on real events. The book is saturated with diverse characters, it has many dramatic plot lines that are intertwined with each other. The novel is not only and not so much about the terrible war, it is more about ordinary, but about such precious human values - love, passion, tenderness, courage, a novel about hatred, betrayal, pain and rage. In a word, a novel about our today's and yesterday's lives, which are so different.
