The fourth volume includes little-known stories by Shevchenko, and it seems that this is some other Shevchenko. It is the versatility of his work that makes it difficult to understand Shevchenko. He was born into a family of serfs and died in distant Russia, and yet he was loved by the people who call themselves Ukrainians, who have very difficult relations with their northern neighbour, in whose language the stories presented in the fourth volume are written.
