Vasyl Shklyar "The Remnant. The Black Raven" (Роман)

In 1921, the four-year war waged by Russia against the Ukrainian People's Republic ended. However, the armed struggle continued for years in almost all parts of Ukraine. The rebels of Kholodnyi Yar fiercely resisted the Russian invaders. Their black battle flag bore the inscription: "Freedom of Ukraine or Death". They were called bandits, robbers, thugs, and even forbidden to mention their names in order to erase from memory the idea for which the rebels sacrificed their lives. Of course, they shot, hanged, burned, and destroyed-but whom? They didn't leave the forest even when an alien power reigned around them and there was no hope for liberation. They-the leftovers-chose to die.
