Іван Багряний "Сад Гетсиманський" (Роман)
The novel "The Garden of Gethsemane", written in 1950, made the name of Ivan Bahrianyi (1906-1963), Ukrainian writer, poet, playwright, political activist, famous all over the world. It was one of the first works that strikingly depicted the terrible essence of the Soviet regime during the years of mass repressions. Behind every page of the novel - pain and suffering, despair and hopes of those who were crushed by Stalin's ruthless death machine. Bahrianyi described what he himself experienced and could not remain silent about. He endowed the protagonist of the novel with his own destiny and his character - unshakable spirit and faith in the invincibility of good. His Andriy Chumak went through all the circles of hell and survived, did not break. And this makes him worthy of the high title of a man.
